Verdelandia Premium Moida Grossa is a chimarrao with a very coarse cut and a bright green color. The aroma of the dry mate is grassy, with nettle and vegetable (even pepper) tones. The first infusions are very strong, quite bitter, again with a pronounced nettle flavor, while the later infusions change to a creamy texture. Chimarrao differs significantly in color, texture, and taste from Argentine, Paraguayan, or Uruguayan yerba and resembles Matcha green tea—a powder of finely chopped leaves with a small amount of stems. It is usually vacuum-packed within the first week after harvest to maintain a higher level of chlorophyll, giving it a bright neon green color. Verdelandia is a traditional family company founded in 1985. As one of the first in the state of Paraná, it started with vacuum packaging, which helps keep the mate fresh much longer. In addition to traditional chimarrao, it has also focused on the production of tereré in recent years. The company follows a sustainable approach, investing heavily in reforestation and planting new Ilex paraguariensis trees, which are harvested for mate production once mature. Verdelandia Mate Herb industry consists of four lines of production: three for the processing of Mate for chimarrão and one for terere. It produces over a million kilos of Mate herb per month and it is available throughout the country.
