Product detailed description

This air-dried yerba is sustainably sourced from the rainforest in the San Mateo region of southern Brazil. As one of the few brands not based in South America, Guayaki is headquartered in the USA, but the raw material (leaves and stems) comes from Brazil. Despite being processed using traditional methods, and upon opening you will notice a typical earthy aroma with grassy tones, upon tasting, you will be surprised by its smoothness and creaminess, which may account for the great popularity of this mate in the USA. The flavor is round, smooth, and gentle. But don't be fooled, the stimulating effect is strong and long-lasting. The brand uses exclusively shade-grown leaves, claiming that growing in direct sunlight promotes bitterness in the final flavor. The maté has minimal powder content. Excellent mate for morning drinking, for beginners, or simply those who prefer mate with a smooth, velvety taste. Guayaki states that their goal is to restore 200,000 acres of rainforest and create 1,000 jobs by 2020. The maté is certified (USDA) organic and non-GMO. Even the San Mateo packaging is eco-friendly, made from innovative biodegradable and compostable films that are forest-friendly, and the package is printed with water-based inks. Guayaki's award-winning Market Driven Restoration business model directly links customer purchases with their partner farming communities in the Atlantic rainforests of South America. Guayaki partners sustainably harvest organic yerba mate in the rainforest, creating a renewable resource stream that enables local communities to improve their lives and restore their lands. Sustainable yerba mate agriculture in the rainforest provides a robust and long-term economic alternative to destructive land-use practices that threaten the region, such as extensive soybean plantations, logging, and cattle grazing.
