This yerba maté is specifically intended for preparation as a cold drink (tereré). The tea consists of coarsely ground leaves, and the plant is harvested from wild-growing shrubs that are collected once every 12 months. It is a refreshing, invigorating beverage. PIPORÉ In the Guarani language, “PI” means foot, “PO” means hands, and “RE” means steps. This formed the word Piporé. According to legend, Chief Santos imprinted his feet and hands into the ground on the riverbank, leaving an indelible mark. He was baptized by the Jesuits with the name Santo Pipó.
